The last day to order Senior Congratulatory Banners is this Friday, May 15. Banners are approximately 36 inches long and 24 inches high. The banners are white vinyl with a full-color print and have grommets at the top for hanging which are good for indoor/outdoor use. Banner pick-up/delivery procedure TBD as we receive more senior event information.

OMHS PTSA General Meeting & Elections - June 11, 2020
Please save the date for the election of officers at the June 11, 2020 general meeting. Meeting details in compliance with physical distancing TBD. Please stay tuned for details.


PTSA 2020-2021 Officers & Committees:
The OMHS Parent Teacher Student Association Nominating Committee is seeking interested parents and community members to serve on the 2020-21 PTSA Board. There is no better way to impact your kids’ education and be involved in the activities at OMHS than by being active in the PTSA. Would you please consider bringing your talents, experience and great ideas to our community?  We know that you have a lot to offer. You will also get to know what is happening at our very busy school and you might even make a few new friends along the way.

Below is a complete listing of the elected PTSA Officer / Board Member duties and descriptions.

President*
Presides at all PTSA meetings.  Coordinates work of PTSA officers and committees and serves as ex-officio committee member.  Informs membership of county, state and national budget and legislative issues.  Serves as liaison between parents and staff.  Represents PTSA at all PTA Council Meetings.

Vice President*
Acts as aide to and performs the duties of the President in the absence of or inability of that officer to serve.

Recording Secretary*
Records, and distributes the minutes of each board and general membership meeting.  Maintains current PTSA membership list. Maintains official recorded documents.

Treasurer*
Maintains custody of all PTSA funds.  Keeps a full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures, to include monthly bank statement reconciliation.  Makes disbursements in accordance with the approved budget. Presents a status report at each monthly meeting. Prepares and pays all required taxes. Coordinates the preparation of the annual budget. Shall have accounts examined by audit committee at close of fiscal year or upon change of treasurer.  Maryland PTA training is required.

In addition to the elected officials above the following appointed positions play an important role in day-to-day operations of the OMHS PTSA.  Please consider joining us on one of these roles and committees:

PTA Council Delegate (2 Delegates Needed)*
Represents PTSA at PTACHC meetings (held 1st Monday of month). Responsible to report at monthly Board meetings the PTACHC activities.

Communications Committee
Conducts the general correspondence of the PTSA including social media.  Maintains archive of all major PTSA correspondence.

Membership Services Committee
Responsible for conducting the membership drive.  Welcomes new families to OMHS community. Maintains current membership roster.

Hospitality / Staff Appreciation Committee
Responsible for developing and implementing ways to show parental and community appreciation of OMHS Staff.  Coordinates hospitality events for our teachers and staff.

Parent Volunteer Coordination Committee
Actively recruits parent volunteers throughout the year to support PTSA committees and school activities.  Compiles a volunteer response log for board distribution.

After-Prom Committee
Planning for and implementing the best After-Prom in Howard County. The party provides a fun and safe environment for our students, making a very special evening even better.

Craft Fair Committee
Planning for and implementing the famous OM Holiday Craft Fair.  It is not only a great community event, but it is also our biggest fundraiser.

Scholarship Committee
Oversee the annual scholarship award process and ensure the timely and fair disposition of scholarship funds.  Responsible for the publicizing and soliciting applications and making decisions based on the applicants’ response.

Hispanic Committee
We are looking for parents to be members of the PTSA Hispanic Committee.  We are a subcommittee of the OMHS PTSA, and we work for the betterment of education for our students and our community. We hold meetings one evening per month, for one hour only. Get involved, and let’s make a difference in the education of our children!

El  Comité de Nominación del OMHS PTSA …

...busca a padres y a miembros de la comunidad que tienen interés en servir con el Consejo del PTSA. No hay mejor manera de influir en la educación de sus hijos e involucrarse en las actividades del OMHS que pertenecer al PTSA. ¿Podría pensar en traer sus talentos, experiencia, y buenas ideas a nuestra comunidad?  Sabemos que tiene mucho que ofrecer.  Así usted se puede enterar de todo lo que pasa en esta escuela tan dinámica; y ¡de paso puede hacer unas nuevas amistades!

A continuación hay una lista de los puestos disponibles del  Consejo del PTSA para el año 2020-21 y las responsabilidades para cada uno:

Cargos de Elección

Presidente
Dirige las reuniones del Consejo. Coordina el trabajo de los representantes y los comités y también sirve en virtud del cargo como miembro del comité. Informa la membresía sobre la situación dellos Consejos del PTSA a nivel del condado, del estado, y nivel nacional. Sirve como un enlace entre los padres y el personal de la escuela. Representa el PTSA en todas las reuniones del PTSA.

Vicepresidente
Actúa como ayudante del Presidente, y toma las responsabilidades del Presidente en caso de que el presidente se encuentre ausente o incapaz de hacer su cargo.

Secretario/a
Toma los apuntes de todas las reuniones del Consejo y los distribuye. Mantiene la lista de membresía y los documentos oficiales del PTSA.

Tesorero/a
Se encarga de los fondos monetarios del PTSA.  Mantiene las cuentas al día, con un récord completo y correcto de los recibos y los gastos, incluyendo de la cuenta bancaria. Se reporta sobre los fondos cada mes en las reuniones. Prepara y paga los impuestos.  Supervisa la preparación del presupuesto anual. Las cuentas se van a auditar cada año o al cambio de tesoreros/as. Hay un entrenamiento obligatorio a través del PTA de Maryland.

Además, hay puestos muy importantes para representantes designados. Favor de pensar en unirse con nosotros  en uno de estos puestos o comités:

Cargos Designados:

Delegado al Consejo del PTA(se necesitan 2 delegados)
Representa el PTSA en las reuniones del PTACHC(se realizan el primer lunes de cada mes). Se reporta cada mes con el PTSA sobre las actividades del PTACHC.

Comité de Comunicaciones
Maneja las correspondencias generales del PTSA, incluso por los medios sociales. Mantiene los archivos de todas las correspondencias importantes del PTSA.

Comité de Membresía
Dirige la campaña de membresía.  Da la bienvenida a las nuevas familias que se han unido al PTSA. Mantiene la lista de membresía.

Comité de Acogida y de Reconocimiento de Personal
Responsable para el desarrollo y la realización de actividades que muestran el agradecimiento al personal de OMHS. Coordina eventos de acogida para los maestros y otros empleados.

Comité para el Manejo de Padres Voluntarios
Responsable para el reclutamiento de padres voluntarios durante el año para apoyar a los comités del PTSA y las actividades estudiantiles. Mantiene un récord de los voluntarios y lo distribuye a los miembros del Consejo.

Comité de After-Prom
Encargado de planear y realizar la mejor fiesta After-Prom. Ayuda a establecer un ambiente seguro y divertido para nuestros estudiantes.

Comité de la Feria de Artesanías
Responsable para la planeación e implementación de la Feria de Artesanías en la temporada de Navidad. Es un gran evento para toda la comunidad, y también el mayor recaudo de fondos en todo el año escolar.

Comité de becas
Supervisa el proceso anual de brindar becas; asegurar la disposición oportuna y justa de los fondos. Responsable de divulgar el programa de becas y solicitar las aplicaciones, y tomar decisiones acerca de las becas basándose en la respuesta del solicitante.

Comité Hispano
Estamos buscando a padres interesados que les gustaría participar comp miembros del Comité Hispano de OMHS/  Somos un subcomité del OMHS PTSA, y trabajamos para el bien de nuestros estudiantes y de nuestra comunidad.  Nos reunimos una hora por mes, en las noches. Anímese y hagamos la diferencia en la educación de nuestros hijos!
