NAME: Howard County Professional Fire Fighters Association Scholarship

Deadline: April 1, 2019

Award: $500

Specific Focus: This scholarship is geared to help the "average" student who displays exceptional qualities and effort rather being an award for the highest grades or sports aptitude. Complete application and essay of 250 words about the impact that the scholarship would have on you. Award will be given to a student from each of the Howard County Public High Schools.

NAME: Zaching Spirit Award Scholarship

Deadline: April 1, 2019

Award: $2,500

Specific Focus: The criteria for these scholarships are as follows:

  • Minimum 2.0 GPA.
  • Must be a senior in high school.
  • Must plan to attend a two or four year university within the following calendar year of receipt of scholarship.
  • Must have overcome some sort of significant hardship, medical challenge and/or family issue relating to cancer during their life.
  • Complete the 5 sections of the nomination form, including 3 individual nomination forms.
  • Is not a family member of a Zaching Against Cancer Foundation Board or Scholarship Selection Committee Member.

NAME: PDK Prospective Educator Scholarship

Deadline: April 3, 2019

Award: $500-$5000

Specific Focus: The PDK Educational Foundation awards about 30 Prospective Educator Scholarships each year.  One-time and renewable awards range from $500 to $5000. Most of these scholarships are for high school seniors; a few of these scholarships are earmarked for current undergraduate students. Once your application is submitted, you will be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible. To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • A paid member in good standing of one of the following associations: Educators Rising, Phi Delta Kappa, and/or Pi Lambda Theta
  • Pursuing a career in education — usually this means you will be or already are enrolled in a School of Education
  • Enrolled full- or part-time for the fall semester of the application year. If you will not be enrolled and paying tuition and fees in the fall, then you are not eligible.

NAME: Jewish Community Services Scholarships

Deadline: April 1, 2019

Award: varies

Specific Focus: Jewish Community Services (JCS) offers several scholarships for Jewish high school seniors from the Baltimore Metro Area planning to attend an accredited U.S. college or university. There is a scholarship available for a student with a documented diagnosed learning disability and several scholarships available for students from single-parent homes. Scholarships are competitive. Recipients are chosen based upon several criteria, including academic performance, financial need, community and school involvement, and letters of recommendation.

NAME: Miss Utility/District One Call Scholarship

Deadline: April 5, 2019

Award: $1,008, 11

Specific Focus: To be eligible, applicants must be on track to graduate from a Maryland or Washington, D.C., high school in spring 2019 and intend to enroll in an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or technical school beginning in fall 2019. A rigorous application review process will consider the personal essay, grades, involvement in extracurricular activities and letter(s) of recommendation.

NAME: Joseph J. Fox, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: April 15, 2019

Award: $2,000

Specific Focus:  Scholarship criteria:

  • Applicant must verify graduation from a Maryland high school.
  • Applicant must be accepted and enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited college or university.
  • Applicant must major in Education with the intent to pursue teaching as a career.
  • Applicant must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.2 or better in high school and submit a high school transcript with the application.
  • Applicant must document current or previous community service in education-related activities or organizations/clubs, etc.
  • Applicant must submit a completed application that follows the scholarship rubric
  • Applicant must apply by the scholarship deadline.

NAME: Drake Davis Foundation Scholarship

Deadline: April 7, 2019

Award: varies

Specific Focus: The Drake Davis Scholarship is awarded in memory of Drake Davis. Drake committed suicide in 2006 and Drake Davis Foundation, Inc. was formed to create an opportunity to raise awareness and prevention of suicide. A limited number of scholarships will be presented to graduating high school seniors who exemplify outstanding qualities in leadership, character and community service.
