"Why Not PTA?"

Here are some common concerns and responses:

"I don’t have time." Joining PTA means supporting your school and the students. We will not hold you to a time commitment you are not able to make.

"I’m already a member of another PTA." It’s completely legal to be a member of more than one PTA!

"PTA is just a clique." PTA is a group of very involved parents working together to benefit our school and students. Everyone is welcome!

"I work full time." We’re not asking you to make a time commitment, just to support us by joining.

"I’m not interested in organizing a carnival." You’re safe - we won't ask you to! You can be as involved as your time allows - or doesn't.

"Those PTA parents scare me!" Ha! They're actually nice. Come say hi - I promise we don't bite!

"All the PTA does is ask for money." I realize it seems this way. We are very careful to ask parents for only what we need to support the students and families of our school.

"I don’t want to be that involved." There are many different levels of involvement and we’re happy to have parents and families at all levels - including those who only want to support with membership but not volunteer.

"There’s nothing in it for me." Being a member of PTA enables you to have a voice at OMHS and vote on issues that affect the students and families. Benefits also include: having access to parent education programs – both at school and online through the Maryland and National PTA websites; opportunities for students such as the Reflections Program and discounts!

And the #1 Excuse not to join PTA: "No one asked me!" We are asking you now…please help us support OMHS and its students by joining PTSA today! Parents, Teachers, Students and community members are welcome to join. Remember there is power in numbers and Your Voice = More Choices.
