The Boys and Girls Indoor track teams had strong showings at the Howard County Championships on Monday, January 29, 2024.
The OM girls WON first place over Howard to capture their first Indoor County Title in over 10 years. The girls were led by Junior Alicia Hall who broke the School, Meet and COUNTY record in the Triple Jump with a leap of 39-00. That is the best jump in Maryland and the 20th-best jump in the COUNTRY. She also placed 3rd in the Long and High Jump and 7th in the Shot Put. Shania Staats also had herself a night breaking the School, County, and Meet record in the Long Jump with a leap of 18-4 inches. She also placed 3rd in the 55-meter dash and 4th in the Triple Jump. Valerie Ashamu won the girls' High Jump and placed 7th in the 300-meter dash. Frankie Moore placed 2nd in the 1600 with a new lifetime Personal Best of 5:13, 3rd in the 3200, and 5th in the 800. She went on to anchor the 1st place 4x400 relay team with Janelle Codrington, Fisayo Sule, and Mackenzie Smith.
The boys placed 2nd to Howard and were led by Adeeb Pender who placed 1st in the Pole Vault, Keshon Tate who placed 2nd in the Long Jump, Jayden Deleon who placed 2nd in the 300, Isaac Ramsey who placed 3rd in the 55 Hurdles, Kaiden Lee who placed 3rd in the Shot Put and AJ York who placed 3rd in the High Jump. The highlight of the night on the boys' side was the Boys 4x800 relay of Folu Longe, Mark Small, Shamar Johnson, and Ja White placing 1st and breaking the School Record!
There were many other great performances and personal bests. The Indoor Track team is back in action next week at the 3A South Regionals.
