Student Voice at OMHS!

Wed, 06/03/2020 - 2:38pm

Hello OMHS CommUnity,

With recent events that are being captured and viewed in multiple news media outlets, we are watching our nation catapult into an emotional roller coaster - where tensions are high, reactions are painful and real, and people are genuinely impacted by their feelings of hurt and injustice. Howard County is not exempt from this.

We will continue to support our students through kindness, care, acceptance, and by exhibiting patience and grace. While we don’t have all the answers, we acknowledge the need for change and are dedicated to making that happen.

The Oakland Mills High School commUnity reflects the core belief of being a place where we are strongest together.  We are a commUnity where relationships and our sense of commUnity mean everything.

The success achieved at OMHS is because of the people who make up our school commUnity. Our stakeholders, including our families, are the hub of our success. OMHS staff are dedicated educators who have a passion for working with students. OMHS students are passionate, eager, and always ready to take on new challenges.

We Are OM…We Are Strongest Together!

We are so proud of our students and families who participated in the HoCo for Justice Vigil and March. To continue the conversation at Oakland Mills High School, we are holding optional Student Voice circles on Friday, June 5 and Monday, June 8 in the afternoon.  These circles will be facilitated by staff and students; as partners, to allow sharing in a safe space. Students can share their thoughts, reactions, concerns, and ideas on moving forward as a community in response to the recent events around the country. The students will receive this information via Canvas to sign up this Thursday, for one of the available sessions on Friday and Monday.

While we very much wish that we could be together in person as a community, our physical distance cannot prevent us from coming together in spirit, in virtual arenas to listen, mourn, share, and support each other.

Please feel free to reach out should you need support. Our student support team, which includes various staff members such as teachers, school counselors, school psychologist, and administrators are here to help support you.

We are here for you!
