Morning Announcements - Wednesday, March 1, 2017

Wed, 03/01/2017 - 10:13am
  • The SAT word of the day is ferret. Ferret is a verb meaning to search out and bring to light; to drive out from a hiding place. Aided by his X-ray vision and his mental telepathy, the superhero had far greater success in ferreting out criminals than did the city police.

  • The answer to yesterday’s Black History Month Trivia Contest question – The American film director, producer, writer, and actor is Spike Lee. Congratulations to the first period classes of Mrs. Urszuy, Mrs. Sapperstein, and Ms. Moore. They tied for first place; job well done. Prizes will be delivered to all first period classes with ten or more correct answers.

  • In honor of March being Women's History Month, our trivia contest will begin today. Please do not use the internet to answer the questions—just try your best! The class with the most answers will receive a fabulous prize. Here’s your first question: While she was not the first pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, she was the first woman to accomplish the feat. She disappeared in 1937 along with her navigator somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Who was this woman, who inspired a generation of aviators in her attempt to circumnavigate the globe by air? Teachers, email your answer to Ms. Anderson or send a student to room 203 with the answer.

  • This is a reminder that seniors who are auditioning to be a Commencement speaker need to report to Ms. Grubb’s room, 207, today by 2:25.

  • Softball tryouts will begin today at 3:00 on the softball field (weather permitting). Please come prepared for both indoor and outdoor practice. If you need additional information or haven't submitted your paperwork, please see coach Yarn in room 407 today.

  • Hallway sweeps are coming! There are too many people in the hallways after each bell rings! We will make an announcement for teachers to close and lock their doors and all students in the hallway will be asked to report to the auditorium to meet with administration. PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR SELF IN THIS SITUATION.  BE ON TIME FOR CLASSES!

  • Ladies, do you need a dress for the prom? If so, stop by Atholton High School on Saturday, March 4th between 9 AM and 2:00 PM for the 4th Annual Pretty & Polished Affair. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and Becca’s Closet is hosting the event that will provide free prom attire, personal shoppers, fashion tips, raffles and much more!

  • There will be an important meeting for anyone interested in playing Allied Softball tomorrow at 2:15 PM in the cafeteria. Important paperwork will be given out. If you have any questions, see coach Laverick in Room 309.

  • If you like to have fun and hang out with a like minded group of people, come join the ping pong club after school on Mondays and Wednesdays in the JROTC room, room 509. Students who don't know how to play can learn, and experienced players can be challenged. All are welcome.

  • There will be a meeting of the Fashion Club this Friday after school in the Media Center. If you're interested in fashion, design, modeling, or hair and makeup tutorials please attend - all are welcome!

  • Today for lunch we are having chicken patty sandwich, hamburger/cheeseburger or beef chili with beans.
