  • The SAT word of the day is salvage. Salvage is a verb meaning to save; to rescue.  Although the flooding in the basement had been severe, the family was able to salvage some of their favorite photos from the waterlogged albums.

  • The answer to Friday’s question- a museum, fire station and planetarium are named after Benjamin Banneker. And now today’s question - Esther Jones was a black jazz singer in Harlem who inspired this caricature jazz flapper known for her curvaceous figure and signature baby vocals. Her trademark song was “I want to be loved by you.” Which cartoon character did she inspire?

  • The track team competed at the Indoor State Meet on Monday, February 20th. Mik'yla S. placed 7th in the 55 meter dash, D'Artagnan B. placed 6th in hurdles, Joey N. placed 6th in the 1600 meter run, Anders C., Darren K., Joel B. and Jared N. placed 6th in the 4x800 relay, Mik'yla S., Ashley H., Ashanti V. and Roshnee R. placed 5th in the 4x200 relay, and Andre T. is the schools newest state champ as he won the hurdles.

  • All current and new tennis players: please submit your completed papers today after school in the main gymnasium to Coach Knuckles.

  • The OMHS Performing Arts Department is looking for singers, dancers and actors for our Spring Musical Revue!  Auditions are today and Friday from 3 PM until 7 PM.  If you've ever thought it might be fun to perform on stage, or if you've ever wondered what it would be like to be part of the theater, this is your opportunity to try!  No experience is necessary.  Just bring a sense of fun and a willingness to learn and you, too, can be a part.  For more information see Mr. Hale in the band area or see the notice next to the theater bulletin board.  Remember, today and Friday from 3 PM to 7 PM.  Who knows, you may be a star in the making!

  • Los Escorpiones Latinos will be meeting tomorrow, Thursday, at 2:15 in room 411. Everyone is invited.

  • Do you need service hours? Would like to help with Hispanic Heritage Month during the fall of 2017? Come see Mrs. Alonso for details. 

  • The 2A West Sectional Playoffs are this Friday, February 24th here at OM. The girls play Liberty at 5 PM, and the boys play Marriott’s Ridge at 7 PM. Admission for this double header is $6. Come out and support the Scorps!

  • If you like to have fun and hang out with a like minded group of people, come join the ping pong club after school on Mondays and Wednesdays in the JROTC room, room 509. Students who don't know how to play can learn, and experienced players can be challenged. All are welcome. 

  • Ladies, do you need a dress for the prom? If so, stop by Atholton High School on Saturday, March 4th between 9 AM and 2:00 PM for the 4th Annual Pretty & Polished Affair. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and Becca’s Closet is hosting the event that will provide free prom attire, personal shoppers, fashion tips, raffles and much more!

  • Anyone who wants to play softball this spring should submit their paperwork to coach Yarn no later than Friday, February 24th. If you still need paperwork, see Coach Yarn in room 407. Softball workouts continue on Friday this week at 2:30 in Coach Yarn's room. 

  • Attention seniors: Are you interested in speaking at Commencement? Do you have words of wisdom you would like to share with your fellow students, parents, siblings, and teachers? Applications are available in your English 12 classes. We will be holding auditions for speakers on Wednesday, March 1, from 2:30-3:30. If you are interested, please sign up with Ms. Grubb or Ms. Swartz by Monday, February 27th.

  • Attention Young Democrats—we’ll be meeting after school this Thursday in Mr. Berry’s room. All are welcome!

  • Today for lunch we are having chicken patty sandwich, hot ‘n spicy boneless wings or steak ‘n cheese sub.
