Morning Announcements - Friday, February 17, 2017

Fri, 02/17/2017 - 8:03am
  • The SAT word of the day is indelicate. Indelicate is an adjective meaning improper, tactless or unseemly. Although she was uncomfortable raising such an indelicate topic, Gloria eventually told her new roommate that he simply had to remember to put the toilet seat down when he left the bathroom.

  • The answer to yesterday’s question - the first surgeon to successfully perform open heart surgery was Daniel Hale Williams. And now today’s question - he was a mathematician, astronomer, scientist, farmer, urban planner, and the first African American civil servant.  He grew up in Baltimore County, MD and is best remembered for surveying the territory for the construction of the nation's capital and his many almanacs which he published between 1792and 1797. There is a planetarium named after him in Catonsville. Who was the first black civil servant?
