Last night, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the Boys and Girls Indoor Track teams swept the 3A East Regional Championships meet. The boys won by 30 points over Howard and the Girls won by 7.5 over Howard.
The boys were led by Mark Small, who won all 4 of his events (the 4x8, the 500, the 800, and the 4x4,) and Gabe Murray, who won the 55 hurdles (with a new personal record, school record, Maryland #1 time and US #17 time), the 4x2 and 4x4 relays. Isaac Ramsey, Keshon Tate, AJ York, Anthony Thompson JR, Simi Olakunle, Shamar Johnson, Tomoki Weddington, and Ayo Adeniyi also contributed big points for the team and all qualified for the state meet in two weeks. Andrew Wenholz and Kris Rogers also contributed points and will have to see if their marks are good enough to make it into the state meet later next week.
On the girls' side, it was a back-and-forth meet all night between OM and Howard. Going into the final event of the night, the girls 4x400, Howard had a 2.5-point lead, BUT OM had the #1 seed. With the meet on the line, our girls went out and ran a season-best time and secured the win. Howard ended up placing 11th in the event. Janelle Codrington and Alicia Hall lead the way for the girls winning their events and qualifying for states. Codi Malott and Payton Buchanan also scored big points and qualified for the state meet. Freshman Rozelyn Sarfo qualified for states in the 55 dash with a personal record in the finals. Cecelia Rosenberg, Nakisha Hogan, Kayla Robinson, and Jordyn Harriston contributed big points while qualifying for the state meet. The girls 4x8 and freshman Aspen Yorek also contributed points but will need to wait until next week to see if they sneak into the state meet.
Congratulations to all of our Scorpion runners!
