Testing and CCR Indicators

 

During the Winter MCAP ELA and Math testing window, 11th Graders who have not yet met the College and Career Readiness (CCR) standard will have the following options:

  • English - Take/retake English 10 MCAP in December/January
  • Math - Take/retake Algebra I MCAP in December/January

Please contact Chris Jackson at christine_jackson@hcpss.org no later than December 12th if you wish to take or retake the ELA 10 MCAP or the Algebra I MCAP in December/January.

Q: If I have already paid for an exam during the current 2025-2026 school year and meet the CCR criteria this school year will I receive a refund?
A: No. Students who retest and meet the CCR standard during the 2025-2026 school year will be eligible for free AP exams next school year (2026-2027).

Q: What is the Maryland State Department of Education CCR Standard?
A: There are two options:

  • Option 1: Students must have:
    • A cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 at the end of the 10th grade or 11th grade, 
    • A final grade of an A, B, or C in Algebra 1, OR a Performance Level 3 or 4 on the Algebra 1 Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) exam 
  • Option 2:
    • Students must meet the testing requirement in both English and mathematics to be considered College and Career Ready.
      • English Requirement: Earned a Performance Level 2 or 3 on the Early Fall 2021 English 10 exam or a 3 or 4 on the English 10 exam taken in the Spring of 2023. Starting in the 2025-2026, a student may also qualify by earning a minimum score of 480 on the Reading and Writing Section of the SAT or PSAT/NMSQT or a minimum score of 18 on the English Section of the ACT.
      • Math Requirement: Earned a Performance Level 2 or 3 on the Early Fall 2021 MCAP Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II exam, 3 or 4 on the MCAP Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II exam during the 2022-2025 school year, earned 4 or 5 on the PARCC Algebra 1, Geometry, or Algebra II exam, or earned a minimum score of 520 on the math section of the SAT. Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, a student may qualify by earning a 3 or 4 on the MCAP Algebra I, a minimum score of 530 on the Math section of the SAT or PSAT/NMSQT, or a minimum score of 22 on the Math Section of the ACT.

Q: How do I determine if I met the Maryland State Department of Education CCR standard?
A: Students and parents can access the HCPSS Connect system

  1. Check their student’s CCR status
    1. Select More Options tab
    2. Select AP Schedule tab
    3. Status is listed directly above the Test Name column
  2. Review their student’s scores for the English and mathematics exams
