OM Boys Indoor Track State Champions

On Friday night (February 21, 2025) the Boys' Indoor Track Team won their record-breaking 11th Indoor Track and Field State Championship. The boys edged out Digital Harbor 64.25 to 62. Senior Gabe Murray won the 55 Hurdles and was second in the 300-meter dash. Both times were personal bests. AJ York placed 3rd in the High Jump tying his personal best with a jump of 6 ft 4 in. Isaac Ramsey placed 3rd in the 55 hurdles with a new personal best of 7.64. Kris Rogers tied for 8th place in the High Jump tying his personal best of 5 ft 8 in. The boys' 4x800 relay of Mark Small, Anthony Thompson Jr, Shamar Johnson, and Tomoki Weddington placed 3rd. Mark Small placed 3rd in the 500-meter dash. Keshon Tate placed 4th in the 300 dash with a new personal best.

But the meet all came down to the final three races of the night. All tied up heading into the 4x200 relay, OM had the #1 overall seed time and Digital Harbor had the #2 seed time. Keshon Tate led the race off and completely blew away the entire field. Digital Harbor fought back on the 2nd leg but on the 3rd leg, Gabe Murray opened up a gap that proved to be too large for any teams to cover. Ayo Adeniyi brought it home for a HUGE win in the boys' 4x200 relay. Digital Harbor faded to 6th overall. This gave us a 4.25-point lead with three events to go.

Next was the boys' 800. Neither OMHS nor Digital Harbor scored any points in that race.

Heading into the night's final event, the 4x400 relay, OM still clung to that 4.25-point lead. OM HAD to place in the top 3 or else lose the meet. Digital Harbor had far and away the best seed time... OM was seeded to get 7th. With everything on the line, Isaac Ramsey, Gabe Murray, Keshon Tate, and Mark Small (all on their 4th or 5th races of the night) pulled out one of the BEST ALL-TIME performances and dropped over 12 seconds off their season-best time and held off Severna Park to place 2nd and clinch the title. It was a legendary performance.

If OM had placed third overall, that .25 point scored would have been the difference. It came from Kris Rogers, who tied for eighth in the high jump. Every fraction of a point mattered.

The OM Girls also had a great night placing 3rd overall. Janelle Codrington placed 2nd in the 55 hurdles with a new personal best and school record. Codi Malott placed 3rd in the 55 Hurdles right behind Janelle and also ran a new personal best. Alicia Hall placed 3rd in the High Jump and Nakisha Hogan placed 7th. Freshman Payton Buchanan placed 5th in the 55 Hurdles and 8th in the 300 dash. The girls 4x200 relay placed 4th overall and the girls ended the night by placing 2nd in the 4x400 relay.

Congratulations to all our Scorpions!
