Oakland Mills High School: IEQ

Fri, 09/29/2023 - 9:58am

Dear Oakland Mills High School Community,

Recently, mold growth was identified at Oakland Mills High School. Below you will find additional information pertaining to this issue.

  • Mold growth was identified in two locations during a routine IEQ Walkthrough, which occurred the evening of September 26, 2023.
  • Media Center:
    • Sporadic mold growth was identified on various bookshelves in the media center.
    • Building Maintenance (HVAC) normally operates the HVAC on a modified schedule in the Summer (4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) in an attempt to reduce the potential for mold growth in this location.  Due to office needs, the HVAC unit serving the Media Center operated in the occupied mode with outdoor air dampers open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. most weekdays during the summer.
    • A board-approved restoration contractor will be used to clean/disinfect impacted services in the media center.
  • Science Wing:
    • Sporadic mold growth was identified in rooms 808 and 809.
    • Other HVAC zones in the Science wing were assessed (RTU-9, 10, and 11). No mold growth was identified.
    • The Office of the Environment cleaned the limited growth upon discovery and the space has been deemed safe for occupancy.
    • Out of an abundance of caution, a board-approved restoration contractor will perform a precautionary cleaning of wood surfaces during off-hours.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to us at OM.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jeffrey Fink, Principal
