  • The SAT word of the day is forestall. Forestall is a verb meaning to take beforehand; to anticipate; to hinder or prevent by measures taken in advance. After Karl had served each of the children their one allotted cookie, he hid the bag away to forestall any efforts by the kids to get him to give them more.

  • Morning ARL students should report to the Media Center. Again, morning ARL students should report to the Media Center.

  • The answer to yesterday's trivia question, the country where blacks abolished slavery and declared independence in 1804 is Haiti. And now today's question. He escaped slavery in Maryland in 1838 and went on to become a famous abolitionist, speaking and writing against slavery, and published a newspaper called the North Star. Who was he?

  • Congratulations to OM wrestling team who are regional champions!

  • It's sandwich time at Potbelly today from 5-8 PM. Help OMHS FAB raise funds by having dinner at Potbelly at 6490 Dobbin Center Way. 25% of all sales will benefit our arts programs.

  • Attention seniors: Are you interested in speaking at Commencement? Do you have words of wisdom you would like to share with your fellow students, parents, siblings, and teachers? Applications are available in your English 12 classes. We will be holding auditions for speakers on Wednesday, March 1, from 2:30-3:30. If you are interested, please sign up with Ms. Grubb or Ms. Swartz by Monday, February 27th.

  • Attention Young Democrats: we will be meeting after school today in Mr. Berry’s room. All are welcome!

  • Seniors – Are you taking the SAT on March 11 and want to improve your scores? Sign up with Ms. Swartz or Mr. Martini to attend free after-school SAT sessions at Oakland Mills High School with Sylvan Learning Center. It will start the week of February 22 and will run 2-4 hours per week. We need to know if you are interested by the end of this week.

  • All current and new tennis players: please submit your completed papers Wednesday, February 22nd after school in the main gymnasium to Coach Knuckles.

  • Anyone who wants to play softball this spring should submit their paperwork to coach Yarn no later than Friday, February 24th. If you still need paperwork, see Coach Yarn in room 407. Softball workouts continue on Friday this week at 2:30 in Coach Yarn's room. 

  • Keep a look out for the Class of 2019 Valentine's Day candy sale. We will be outside of the cafeteria during all lunches. With a range of options of candy to buy your friends, there is something for everyone. Get prepped for Valentine's Day and benefit the Class of 2019. 

  • Attention Spirit Club: we will be meeting after school tomorrow in Mr. Berry’s room. All are welcome!

  • AP Registration begins today and runs until March 9th. The cost is $93 per exam ($10 per exam if qualified for a fee reduction). Registration forms can be found on Naviance.
