Save the date - The Senior Awards Assembly will be held on Wednesday, May 23 at 8:30am.

Attention Seniors: Come update the Senior Board located in the Counseling Center with your college decision. Fill out the blue card and leave it for the parent volunteers to put on the board.

NAME: E-Waste Scholarship

Deadline: April 30, 2018

Award: $1,000

Specific Focus: Each year there are 20 to 50 million tons of e-waste discarded in the world. E-waste contains toxic materials, including heavy metals, that can easily seep into the ground and ultimately get into groundwater supplies. According to the EPA, recycling e-waste allows more than 100 million pounds of materials to be reused annually. The purpose of this scholarship is to help understand the impact of e-waste and what can be done to reduce e-waste. This scholarship is open to high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior.

NAME: Digital Privacy Scholarship

Deadline: June 30, 2018
Award: $1,000

Specific Focus: It's important to understand that almost anything you post on the Internet is neither temporary nor private. And posting too much information can have devastating consequences. Forty-three percent of employers who checked on social media have decided not to hire someone, according to a CareerBuilder survey. Twelve percent of college admissions officers who checked Facebook decided not to admit an applicant according to a Kaplan Test Prep survey. The purpose of this scholarship is to help you understand why you should be cautious about what you post on the Internet. This scholarship is open to high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior.

NAME: GearWeAre Academic Scholarship

Deadline: April 30, 2018

Award: $1,500

Specific Focus: The Essay topic must focus on how love for the outdoors or outdoor sports helps to attribute to your success in life, to date. Outline successes, failures, and even obstacles which you have been able to overcome to reach your goals. Imagine how that type of perseverance and drive may someday lead to your dream career.

NAME: RemixEducation Young Leaders Scholarship

Deadline: April 30, 2018

Award: Not specified

Specific Focus: 

Criteria for Eligible Candidates

  • Attend high school either Oakland Mills High School, Long Reach, or Wilde Lake High School
  • Must be a student of African descent
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 grading scale
  • Have applied and been accepted to an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university
  • Must be a first-generation college student
  • Participate in a community service or public service for at least a 3 month period
  • Provide an official transcript
  • Provide a recommendation from a school official or community leader.
