The Oakland Mills Scorpion Kinetic Sculpture team participated in the 17th Annual Baltimore Kinetic Sculpture Race on Saturday, May 6, 2017. Students planned, designed, and created the kinetic sculpture using bikes, bed frames, and other recycled and donated materials. Their theme "OM Goes Bananas," was a hit among the judges as OM students attempted to bribe judges along the route with chocolate covered bananas. The course led the competitors through Federal Hill, around the Inner Harbor, down Pratt and Fleet Streets to Canton where teams participated in the "water portion" of the race. OM's team maneuvered easily through the choppy water without incident. However, a bent frame and the need to get students home and ready for PROM meant that OM's time in the competition had to be cut short. We are so proud of our students for their dedication to the kinetic sculpture team and their willingness to participate on PROM Saturday.
A special thanks to all the parents and family members who helped make this event the most successful ever for OM's kinetic sculpture team and to teachers and fans who came to cheer us on. This is the 3rd year OM has participated in the event. If you or your child would like to participate in 2018, please see Coach Yarn for details.
